I always jump at the chance to getaway. ALWAYS! So when my friend (and former roomie) was in Montreal for the week for work and asked if I would want to join her on Friday for a gals weekend, I obviously needed to make it happen, even though if was random and short notice, but yolo, right (lol-kidding! that was not necessary)
What girl doesn't want a weekend away to shop, eat, wander and let her hair down after a few cocktails? Thats exactly what I wanted. I departed Toronto Friday after work and the flight was easy and only an hour and 10 minutes. I arrived at the ALT HOTEL around 8:30 to freshened up. This hotel was adorable! It wasn't right downtown but it was near the water and a 10 minute walk to Old Montreal. The hotel was beautifully decorated with white, grey and wood accents splashed with colour. I would highly recommend!
We wanted to go to a late dinner so we headed to BEVO BAR + PIZZERIA for a cocktail and a delish stone oven pizza. <The Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza is a MUST!> We wanted to hit 2 Pierrots after for some dancing since it was recommended for some quality french music but the line up was out of control at 11:30. We ended up just wandering around the bustling streets for an hour or so and headed back to the hotel to get a good nights rest.
We woke up bright and early and headed to Cafe M for some macaroons, eggs benny and fancy coffees. I already knew this trip was going to be based around eating, and I was more then okay with it. To work off the carbs, we hit St. Catherine street for some shopping. <Shopping is cardio, right?> Although there ARE a lot of stores here, I found there wasn't anything we didn't have in Toronto. If you aren't from Canada though, you will love the shops here, since some of them are not available over seas (Aritzia, Lululemon, Simons to name a few.)
Since we wanted to find boutiques, we decided to hitch a ride to St. Denis & St. Laurent. These areas are less touristy and are filled with just what we wanted-independant stores we can't shop at home! ADDICTED to "ZONE" on St. Denis- an awesome home decor store! If I was driving home, I would have bought MUCH more- don't think my carry on was going to support my shopping habits this time! St. Denis was really fun though- one side of the sidewalk was painted red and had fake grass and hammocks- it seemed to have been made for the men who had to wait for their lady in the stores. Smart, very smart! Well, we just used it as a photo opportunity. Our macaroon hunt continued at Point G where we purchased 6 more for our eating pleasure.
There are plenty of places to dine around here, however we wanted to head back to St. Catherine street for dinner since we scouted a place called Wienstein & Gavino's. The gnocchi here is AMAZING! Definitely didn't help my "tight dress later that evening" situation, but who cares. Before we head back- can't forget to take a swing on this swing set in the middle of the city!
After we rolled back to the hotel, we relaxed a bit before we got ready for a night out. The hotel was pretty small, so there was no restaurant or bar, so they had a bar at the front desk, and they served you drinks. The girls working here were possibly the highlight of the hotel! They served us drinks and took photos of us-I could get used to this life!!
We headed out to the W hotel for some lobby bar drinks. It was a little expensive but a beautiful hotel! After we headed to a bar that felt like we were going into a cave called Peopl. The music here was great but we didn't want the bar hop to end just yet so we took a short cab over to Bar Confessional where we finished the night off with some dancing.
Day two was a little rough at the beginning due to our 4am bedtime, but we wanted another good breakfast-and we found that in Communion. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio and enjoyed another eggs benny-dont judge.
What were there odds of it being Poutinefest here this weekend? Well it was, and I may have had the best poutine of life- The gravy was made of Jager-pretty sure the place was called Jagerpoutine. There were numerous to choose from if you aren't into a food that sounds like a hard alcohol. Now that i am typing this all out, i more than likely gained 15 pounds this weekend….
Well, we didn't ONLY eat when we were here although it sounds like is is… We went to Notre Dame Church and it was beautiful and took a nice stroll along the water. We weaved in and out of the streets and took in the European style architecture. It was time for us to leave, and thank god because any more time here and I would need to hit the gym every day for the next month!!! We got blessed with great weather, so this weekend was fab! The perfect getaway for 2 blondes who want to have some fun and eat our hearts out!
